What are the Rights of Consumer in India – In India, every citizen has the right to choose the services and goods of his choice. First of all, it is important to know what consumer rights mean. Consumer rights mean the right of consumers to know the quality, strength, quantity, purity, price of the purchased services and goods. To protect all such consumer rights, the Consumer Protection Act was enacted in India in 1986.
What are the Rights of Consumer in India
1) Right to Safety
The consumer must have knowledge of the product/service it is purchasing as well as the quality of the product. The product and service must be good for health and free from the products which are hazardous to the life or property of the consumer.
The government determines the quality of the product and service for the safety of the consumers as well as provides guidance on what is necessary requirements for safety. The quality of products and services is checked by the government for the safety of the consumers. Also, all this information is given on that product.
2) Right to Information
It is the responsibility of the manufacturer, the seller and the trader to inform the customer about the goods and services, batch number, expiry date, packing date, ingredients used. The customer should also be informed about the hallmark, ISI mark. It is also the responsibility of the manufacturers, dealer’s and traders to the consumers to inform the customers about the quality, strength, quantity, purity, price of the goods and services.
3) Right to Choose
The customer has the right to take the goods and services of his choice. The seller cannot force the customer to buy a particular item. It is up to the customer to decide which item to buy.

4) Right to be Heard
Every consumer has the right to be Heard. According to the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, every consumer has the right to lodge complaints or complaints against unfair trade practices in their forums.
5) Right to Seek Redressal
Every customer has the right to get relief if the product or service falls short of his expectations or if he is not satisfied. Relief can be product replacement, product defect removal, compensation, product withdrawal.
6) Right to Consumer Education
Every consumer has the right to Educate about consumer laws as well as consumer rights. They need to know their rights and exercise them.
