There are mainly four committees which was appointed by the government of India for giving recommendation regarding the panchayati raj system. 1) Balwant rai mehta committee 2) Ashok Mehta committee 3) G V K Rao committee 4) L M Singhvi Committee 
It was set up in the year of 1957 by Indian government. Balwant Rai mehta appointed as chairman of this committee 
It was set up in the year of 1977 by Indian government. Ashok mehta appointed as chairman of this committee 
It was set up in the year of 1985 by Indian government. G V K Rao appointed as chairman of this committee 
It was set up in the year of 1986 by Indian government. L.M SInghvi appointed as chairman of this committee
